The Eye, starring Jessica Alba, is an excellent horror movie. Normally, I am not a fan of horror movies, but this one is truly top notch. The movie revolves around Sydney Wells, played by Jessica Alba, after she receives eye surgery.
Wells has been blind since the age of five when she and her sister were playing with fireworks that exploded in her face, ruining her vision. Several years later, Wells is able to get a cornea transplant, which should restore her sight. Unfortunately, she is able to see far more than simply her surroundings. Nearly immediately after her surgery, she is confronted with visions. These include images of ghosts, shape shifting surroundings and visions from the previous owner of the eyes.
The acting by Alba is absolutely superb. The movie draws the viewer in from the very beginning and begs the question, "how much of what we actually see is really here?"
In total, this is an excellent way to spend two dollars. The movie stays away from cheap thrills and develops a solid story line. By the end of this film you are truly emotionally invested in the well-being of the characters. And, my favorite part of this film is, SPOILER ALERT: it has a happy ending.
Final Score: 8/10. The Eye can be seen in Burchard 118 at 8:30 p.m. on April 27 and 9 p.m. on April 28 and 29.
